Moon Family Gingerbread Creations are Coming to Uintah County Library

The Moon Family Gingerbread Display is coming to Uintah County Library this year. Now in its 17th year, the Moon Family Gingerbread Creations are a staple of the Basin's holiday traditions. Stephen and Sabrina Moon are residents of Jensen, Utah. This year, as Stephen and his team prepare to open the Roosevelt Library's new building, we have a once in a lifetime opportunity to host the gingerbread creations in Vernal. Join us this December for fun, learning, and more.

Here are a few highlights from 2020's Gingerbread extravaganza. It was based on the "Last Kids on Earth" series that the Moon's then 7-year-old son picked as the theme. The display had seven scenes and two monsters that were among the largest ones the Moon family has ever created. We can't wait to see this year's display and hope you'll join us.

The ginger bread tradition all started with Ann Moon. She taught her son Stephen Moon, how to make gingerbread houses. When Stephen was working at the local library, he began to display his gingerbread houses, libraries, and castles for the public to enjoy. In 2004 he introduced his now wife Sabrina Moon to the tradition. Together the three of them began creating more and more elaborate buildings.

Then one year, Ann made the comment that it would be really neat to see a complete story with the gingerbread. Thus the two foot by two foot buildings became a two foot by six foot world that has encompassed many themes and stories. In 2013 the Moon family had a little boy named Matthew. Matthew, who was only six months old, joined in the tradition by eating the baby Jesus right out of the manger. Thus the four of them continue the tradition with a new blueprint of their next fantastic creation, which is always on display at the Roosevelt library during the month of December. (Except for this year...).
