Here’s the short version: “bumps in the road” for OverDrive eBook users- expect service outages; you’ll need your PIN in addition to your lib card number. We apologize for inconveniences which this may cause you.
Here’s the long version: Uintah County Library users of OverDrive eBooks have always been able to sign in to the OverDrive website by entering their library card barcode number, but beginning on December 1st, 2017, they will need to also enter in their PIN. This is to prevent users from signing in to another user’s OverDrive account accidentally. The “bumps in the road” which the library expects may prevent OverDrive users from signing in for a few days and these problems are necessary to set up this system without compromising the privacy of library patrons.
To this end, the library is setting up a temporary measure which will necessitate manually updating a list of library card numbers until the permanent solution, which is still in the works, can be implemented. This means that someone who registers for a new library card tomorrow might not be able to sign in to OverDrive until the next business-day when their card number can be added to the list.
